GUEST POST! How to make my dad’s Chilaquiles
A wonderful recipe from Cami, Vassar quid kid extraordinaire!
While visiting my cousins in Mexico, whenever we would eat at a restaurant or small roadside place for breakfast whilst travelling and sightseeing, I would order chilaquiles. They were so deliciously spicy, that even though my face resembled a tomato, my eyes were chattering away with tears, and my snot was outright threatening to leave my nose, I would eat the entirety of the chilaquiles while my parents and cousin watched in amusement. I’m sure it was an attractive sight.
Chilaquiles remain one of my favourite dishes and are spectacularly good even when you aren’t making them very spicy. So when I cooked some for my friends Medha and Nathan (after a previous attempt as breakfast for my housemates) I decided to have some photo evidence. Oh, and I also decided to imitate my friend Matt Panico and his friends.

December 31, 2011 - Chopped!

Our family and the Smiths have something in common: our kids are all the same age. Jordan and I are college juniors, my brother Matt and Anna are high school juniors, Ryan and Josh are in ninth grade, and Maura and Justin are in seventh. They decided to invite us over for a Chopped competition, where the kids would work in pairs to prepare meals for the judges (our parents).

“Runaway” by Mat Kearney was the song choice for “Kreacher’s French Onion Soup”. I had a playlist of his after “Sooner or Later” got stuck in my head again after I watched the Zeitgeist 2011 video earlier today.

December 15, 2011: Kreacher’s French Onion Soup
One of my friends (Rebecca) and I decided to make the French Onion Soup that was in my Harry Potter cookbook. I got dressed up to celebrate the occasion. My apartment had a lovely delicious scent from the soup, which a couple of my roommates commented on when it came home. All in all, a fairly simple recipe that only takes about an hour; it’s a good way to get warm and de-stress for a bit on a chilly day.

November 25, 2011 - Toffee!

Alea, my best home friend, came over to try our hands at making toffee. Unfortunately, there’s no soundtrack for this recipe because we spent our time watching The Walking Dead instead.

November 18, 2011 - Winter Squash Soup

My old roommate Rachel came over to make dinner with me. This was one of the most surprisingly successful meals to date.

October 7, 2011 - Chili with Sour Cream & Cheddar Biscuits

Alex, Patrick from Quidditch, his girlfriend Ruth, and I all had a cooking date! It took us about 3 hours from start to finish, but since we were starving by the end, it made the food taste even more delicious!
